Here is my latest fun map, I wanted to make an air_fight styled map but with a much more detailed map and less tk'ing with planes. It has planes at multiple heights for a unique air fight experience. It is also possible to get from one spawn to another without an air plane but it is a long route, won't have to worry about rushers. Here are some screenshots, let me know what you guys think. Also, let me know if there is already a map named air_combat, seems like a name that could have easily been used before. I'm also worried this map might get some fps drop at certain spots, we shall see when it gets added. It's pretty much done, I will submit it to the official thread soon.

I do not know him entirly, but the times that ive played against him, i can tell he isnt hacking. And if he only uses hacks some of the times, what is the point in that? Thats all i got to say.

the choppers are not very big in the front, its going to be hard to hit and kill people.I think thats a big part of having cars. can anything be done about that?

Cool map, I'm definitely no big fan of air_fight2, so it's cool to see a remake. Pretty sure there is no other map named air_combat. Love the wall trims, textures and geometry - I really thought it was a source map for a second. But you need to be careful man it looks like an overload, geometry might be too complex. Especially for a simple map with vehicles, you should have kept it more simple. I ran into similar problems with Pasi, it ran smooth when I was testing it alone, but when you add 20 players in there the fps drops significantly because of those low r_speeds. It's really why I hate working with Hammer: you have to keep it simple. Remember that usually players in a pub look for smooth game play rather than aesthetics.


But it's too good of a map to waste. I would turn it into an objective map, it just feels more appropriate for that. Post the bsp (or pm me) so I can take a full look at it, it's very nice. :)

Yeah that is my biggest concern, the geometry might be too much, I might have to force myself into simplifying it. I've already started, I cut it's original compile time in half but I think I'll have to shave it down even more.

The map looks awesome man; I can't wait to play it :) I would definitely scale it down if lag/fps drop is a concern on your map, because everyone hates that and will lead to nobody wanting to play it (despite how "nice" it might look or how thoughtfully you designed it).

Yeah Ive really gutted the map out, getting perfect fps and a really quick compile time on it now, unfortunately it wont have all the sexy curves that you see in the screenshots but I'd rather it be a playable map. Should be submitted hopefully sometime tonight.

I'm having really annoying vehicle issues, there's a way to make vehicles restart every round, (normally they re spawn in the last position they were in last round, this sometimes will make cars permanently unusable) I haven't been able to figure out how to do this yet and it is pissing me off, can't be too hard as nipper obviously figured it out in his old car maps.

Rip out an ent file from a map that has working vehicles or do a quick decompile - that helped me when I had some problems.

So I finally got off my ass, got a decompiling program, checked out some maps, and solved my problem. Of course it was very simple and I am currently beating myself up over it. It should be done tonight, xguy I might PM you the map because I always like to have at least one other person critique/check out my maps before I release em.
