8-12 teams of 4 players per team + at minimum 1 back up. (Minimum 5 players per team and Maximum 6 players per team.) The number of teams enrolled will be divided over two servers. (i.e. Server #1 - Teams 1,2,3,4 and Server #2 - Teams 5,6,7,8) Each server will host their own mini-tourney until one team is left which will play the winner of the other server. Single elimination.
Round 1:
Ka_knife
4v4 Match. No slashing. Slashing = Surrendering 1 round.
First team to 16 rounds wins, no switching of sides and no two out of three.
Round 2:
ka_aztec
4v4 Match. Round timer 1 minute and c4 timer 35 seconds. Slashing Allowed.
15 round halves, first team to 16 accumulative rounds.
Semi-Finals:
ka_scoutzknivez
4v4 Match. Slashing Allowed.
15 round halves, first team to 16 accumulative rounds.
Finals:
ka_dustbox2
4v4 Match. Round timer 1 minute and c4 timer 35 seconds. Slashing Allowed.
15 round halves, first team to 16 accumulative rounds.
If two teams tie it moves to 4 round halves, first to 5. And if that does not produce a decision each team will pick one player from their team for a 1v1 no planting, first kill wins. (Slashing Allowed on all maps but ka_knife.)

Usually we hold tournament in the afternoon just in case if it gets too late and people have plans for dinner in the evening. If the start time is at 2-3pm EST I'm guessing it should end around 4:30-5:00 pm EST with 2 servers.
Who are going to be the referees during the matches?
We will probably officially announce the tournament 2-3 weeks before March 28 so people have enough to set up a team and so that people don't forget about it if the wait is too long. I wouldn't mind setting up some "practice" sessions or pugs on the server before hand to get people more into the tournament and help promote it. Hopefully people will be attracted to the server and stick around after the tournament.
When do you want the second server be up by? Are we setting up HLTVs?

12PM PST or 3PM EST until 2PM PST or 5PM EST.
Referees:
Myself, Childsplay, LeGaCy, Mr. Sucky, ^elusive
Duplicate server should be up 1 week before or how ever long it might take c4a. March 21, 2010
HLTV set up on both servers 1 week before or how ever long it might take c4a. March 21, 2010. C4A or someone should record a demo for the finals for all to see. 5 second delay.

that's why I hate ka_knife, it needs to be called ka_gangfest, because that's all anyone ever does. that map makes me rage quit almost every time it's played, because everyone in that server blows and/or is an asshole so they gang every round.

In matches, when you're the last person left, you have to juke the people on the other team and pick them off one at a time when they try to gang you. If they aren't good at ganging, it can be easy. That shows way more skill than forcing the other team to 1v1.
It takes a lot of strategy and skill to gang more effectively than the other team, and that's why we'd never have a rule like that in the tournament. It would make each round focus more on 1v1 when the match happens to be 4v4.
I understand where you're coming from though. In pubs, ganging doesn't involve much skill and usually it just aggravates teamates since their kills get "stolen." That's why in most pubs I play in, people allow the last person to have 1v1 and sometimes even a "free hit" if their hp is lower.

Start with dustbox imho as it's the most unique, then scoutzknivez or aztec (though I still think ka_sk sucks), then knife.

I've been thinking about having ka_knife be the final map also, but for different reasons. Mostly all serious knife scrims already take place on ka_knife, and since the map's so plain, there aren't any advantages to being on either team.
Does anyone disagree with having the order be ka_dustbox2, ka_scoutzknivez, ka_aztec, and then ka_knife?

I ranked them from ease of accessibility, initially.
ka_knife, ka_aztec, ka_dustbox2, ka_scoutzknivez
But childsplay brought up a good point that we should not let SK'er dominate the finals.
ka_knife, ka_aztec, ka_scoutzknivez, ka_dustbox2
People who don't knife also might find problems navigating the maps in a bhop/low gravity strafe fashion. If I took two people who had never knifed before and stuck one in ka_knife and the other in ka_dustbox2 or ka_scoutzknivez, I'm sure we would see a larger learning curve in db2 and ka_sk. I would want to believe that we would encourage more people to knifing and the c4a knife server with a less daunting map as with the additional bomb planting.
Out of the 4 maps, the most common is ka_knife, especially over dustbox1 and 2. I know 2 or 3 knifers who purchased their own private servers that only run ka_knife, which on a regular basis accommodates the majority of the professionals who knife. From the c4a perspective ka_knife is a gangfest, but for knifers outside the c4a community think very differently.
I'm sure if we hosted a ka_scoutzknivez tourney, only half of the knifing community would sign up because they don't all air-strafe well enough and don't care too either.
Gangfests in general, i believe, exists inside of pubs. People play very differently when it's a match in a tourney (players are more reserved and cautious) over a regular day in a pub(every man for himself).
Keep it ka_knife, ka_aztec, ka_scoutzknivez, ka_dustbox2

I don't plan on it happening, I'm just saying...it would be nice. The only map I wouldn't care about ganging is ka_scoutzknivez, because I can strafe around that map for days without being touched if it's 1 v 1...i.e., I can strafe around until you get bored, and then stab you in the back when you give up...and I only consider myself to be good at air strafing, there's a lot of people that are great at it (and annoyingly show it off all the time *cough* elusive/adult swim/all you guys *cough* lol) who could do it for longer.
I'd say leave the rotation as is though...ka_knife will make the first round end quick since it's small. although I think the map for the finals would be better suited if it were more open to allow for better knife fights. dustbox is kind of crammed, so you can't move around a lot...and by that point, it's only going to be the 8 best, so hopefully they aren't a-holes and still ganging lol.

Say if Team A goes against Team B and the first map is ka_knife then Team B wins... Is Team A permanently eliminated? Or do you guys finish all the maps and say Team A won the ka_dustbox 2, ka_aztec, and ka_scoutzknivez then Team B is eliminated?
Sorry if it's confusing.
Also, we can switch people around for different maps as well right?

Yes, Team A would be permanently eliminated as it is single elimination.
I will post the official thread this week so just hold on tight and you can read all the rules in detail.
