X-Chat Tutorial

This is a tutorial that will explain how to set up X-Chat. X-chat is a multi-platform IRC Chat Program. Something a lot of people do is download MIRC and then download a seperate script to enhance the aspects of IRC. This program integrates the two and does not have the bothersome registration pop-up that occurs in the original MIRC download. You will need to create a gamesurge account by going to http://www.gamesurge.net/createaccount to be able to be authorized/voiced/oped on the channels. Okay, so let's get started.

1. Go to http://xchat.org/download and click whichever platform you are running.

2. Double click the executable and install wherever you like.

3. The next thing to do is to start the program (see pic 1)

4. You will need to add 'Gamesurge' to the network list. Click add, type 'Gamesurge' and hit OK. Then make sure you have gamesurge highlighted and click the 'Edit' button. (pic 2)

5. Click the 'new server' on the left and type 'irc.gamesurge.net' then go down and make sure auto connect to network on start up is checked. Go down and add the channels you would like to connect to upon startup seperated by a comma, next go down to 'connect commands' and type in your gamesurge auth e.g. /authserv auth <username> <password>

6. click 'Close'

7. You should now be back on the 'Network List' screen

8. You can check the 'Skip Network list at startup' tick if you'd like so you don't have to deal with it again or you can leave it unticked if you think you may want to explore any of the other servers IRC has to offer.

9. Now click 'Connect'.

10. The program should automatically connect and you will have a screen that looks like this (pic 3)
