IRC is a great way for people to communicate with each other and is another place where we can grow as a community. Staff members can easily hold meetings on IRC while players have another way they can get in contact with admins. This is a guide that will help you to set up mIRC in order to be able to idle our IRC channel.

mIRC is an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client. IRC networks are virtual meeting places where people from all over the world can meet and talk.

Register an IRC Account on Game Surge.

To register go here: http://gamesurge.net/createaccount/ You will be emailed a password which will be needed later on in setting up your IRC account.

Where to Download mIRC and How to Connect to the Cause4Alarm Channel.

To download mIRC: http://www.mirc.com/

After you install it, open mIRC. You will be greeted with a register box. Don't register, close the popup and you will be brought to the Options configuration screen. You can put anything you want in the Full name and Email boxes. There are thousands and thousands of people connected, so if your name is taken, be creative.

Next, click the IRC Network drop-down box and select Gamesurge. Then type /join #c4a



How to Perform and Authorize your Account.

Perform basically means getting mIRC to automatically connect to GameSurge, give your GameSurge authentication password and join #c4a

Click the Tools menu and click Options. Open up the Connect tab and click on Options.

Select the Connect on Startup and Reconnect on Disconnection check boxes, and clear the Pop up connect dialog on startup check box.



Click the Perform button. Select the Enable Perform on connect check box.

Copy and paste the following four lines to the Perform commands box.

/authserv AUTH <account name> <password>
//mode $me +x
/join #c4a


Replace <account name> with your GameSurge account name (see above) and <password> with your account password.
Ex: /authserv AUTH Cyantific xy8szw32a

Your account password is emailed to you after you register with Gamesurge.

Add any other channels you want to join, by adding more /join #channel lines, one per line.

Access Levels in IRC

The IRC access levels will be set up according to you status level at c4a. Regular admins will be peoned at an access level of 100. Junior admins will be given 150 access, Senior Admins will be given 250 access, Directors will be given 450 access.

Please note that Cause4Alarm rules apply to IRC. You will be punished by the Directors if you break any rules or abuse your powers given to you in our IRC channels.
